Hey everyone!
So this is going to be a kind of short post, I'm out of pictures but I'm sure we will have lots to post tomorrow. This past weekend was crazy busy, I only ran once. Friday was date night, Saturday we saw 2 of our friends to catch up and Sunday we were lazy with the exception of cleaning a little. Today I got to babysit this little cutie, our best friends baby boy. It was a blast and we had lots of fun. Now time to get ready for New Year's Eve we are doing dinner out and then a little get together at my brothers. We weren't feeling the whole downtown drinking scene this year-too expensive just to feel like crap the next day. A lot of people are excited for a new year to begin and so am I, but truthfully I am so blessed each and every day I couldn't imagine being any happier.
Highlights of my 2012:
-My first half marathon!
-becoming a runner and loving the changes it has made to my mood and health.
- My wedding! It was a great day and filled with many special memories.
-Getting my diploma, without any debt.
- My husband coming home and getting out of the army forever.
There are so many more amazing things that happened and I can't wait to see how 2013 has in store! Cheers to a new year !
What are your New Years plans? The best of your 2012?

The holiday's are almost over
Hey all!
I'm back!! Even though I am still in a "holiday hangover" and want to be lazy and stay in bed all day. I've only done 2 short runs but no long runs in a week. It's time for another long one but I am trying to recoup on sleep and everything else- so hopefully soon. We did the split holidays thing this year, my family Christmas eve and Ians Christmas evening. It was busy, crazy, and exhausting but we had a great holiday. I got some awesome stuff from all of my family, but my husbands gift was by far my favorite. In fact it was my favorite I have ever gotten. He got me a framed canvas photo print of me and my grandpa- the last photo taken before he passed away this summer.I cried when I opened it. The best gifts are those you could never think to ask for. The photo really meant a lot to me.
Now on to part 2 of this post- my December Cara Box. This was my first time participating in Wifessionals Cara box swap- you get paired with two other bloggers and send one a gift box and receive a box from the other. It's so fun to get to connect with other bloggers. This months theme was Christmas sparkle! I got some glittery Christmas decor/ornaments, a fun body spray and a glitter T! My box was from Karla she is so cute and has an awesome blog! It was fun being her partner!

Hi everyone!
Sorry this is late, but I am linking up with Sarah and Heather for the holiday questions linkup today! Tomorrow I will recap my week and my training runs but today was INSANE busy so I am just doing a short get-to-know you post! It's 6 pm here and I just got home from shopping and meetings that started at 9 am. Anyways, here you go
The questions are:
Hope you're all having a great week! Grab the button and linkup if you want!!

The questions are:
What's your favorite holiday movie? The old cartoon Grinch- not a huge fan of any other holiday movies, although I do also like bad santa.
Do you have any special traditions? - Since I am newly married, the hubs and I don't currently have any of our own traditions but my family always does christmas on christmas eve and then we watch my niece and nephew do santa on christmas morning.
What's your favorite ornament or decoration? - My favorite ornament is one I gave to my husband that is a hanging frame with our photo in it. I gave it to him our first dating Christmas before he deployed.
Best gift you've ever received? - Hmm well thats hard. My best gift wasn't given to me on Christmas and most favs are sentimental. The best gift I got on christmas that wasn't sentimental/heirloom would probably be either the ballet shoes and lessons my mom and grandma surprised me with one year and I chose this because it ended up being one of my favorite activities all through high school so it was more than a gift to me.
Worst gift you've ever received? - That's really tough because I usually love everything and am very easily amused. I would have to say that I have always had 2 christmas's because of divorced parents, so sometimes as a "grown up" your stocking gets a lot of little things that I feel always clutter and take up space and I end up throwing them away/wasting it. Mainly with lotions and stuff like that because I have certain ones I like and I also have super sensitive dry skin so have to be careful. I still wouldn't go so far as to say it's a "bad" gift, just not my favorite thing to get.
Favorite winter accessory? - Peacoats! I could collect them in all colors and brands.
Real tree or fake? - Fake- the real ones are too messy and I am lazy!
When and how did you find out that Santa was not real? - I don't really remember a specific event, but I do remember instances where I would see the boxes to santa's gifts in the garage and kind of assumed but my mom really pushed believing in it so I didnt want to hurt her feelings by saying otherwise.
Hope you're all having a great week! Grab the button and linkup if you want!!

Tuesday
Hey everyone!
I have been totally MIA lately, had SO much going on after Friday. I'm back to business now though. First up: My 2013 goal- to complete a marathon is officially in session. I registered for the Portland Marathon for next October. Leaving plenty of time to train and plenty of time to drop those lbs beforehand. Yay!
Next, I am joining the red bikini challenge, my goal isnt a bikini but a dress I have. Losing those lbs is also on my "pre-baby bucket list" which is a personal thing I have, a bucket list of things to do before we start a family.
I also participated in an ornament swap and was paired with Kari. I got her supercute ornament on Friday! It is pictured below. It was fun to get to know another blogger!
Now, as promised I will share my sister-in-law's lentil sloppy joe recipe.

Now, as promised I will share my sister-in-law's lentil sloppy joe recipe.
Lentil Sloppy Joe's:
- 2 15 oz. cans lentils, drained and rinsed
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 1 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1-2 stevia packets
- 14 oz. tomato sauce (no salt added)
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 diced onion and 2 tsp oil
To cook- use 1 cup lentils, 2 cups water. Heat to a rolling boil. Turn heat down and let simmer until water evaporates. Sautee onion and garlic in oil. Add lentils and spices, stir and add all other ingredients. Cook until thick like sloppy joes. You can play around with the spices- add more/less if you like or don't like certain flavors. These are a great healthy carb for before a long run! We still have leftovers, which makes lunches easy! Email/comment if you have any questions. Sorry, didnt take any pictures.
Marathon registration baby!

Friday & a 9 mile run!
Happy Friday!
It's 12:15 here and I got up this morning, ran 9 miles and now I've been finishing up a bunch of stuff around the house. I work tomorrow all day so I knew I had to get my long run in early. Yay! It feels amazing and I am glad I reached another goal in my weekly running. It was a really good run, minus the giant blister on the side of my arch. I pushed through it anyways because I really needed this training run. Only 3 weeks until my next half marathon, and I can't wait! I am super excited to see how I do on a flat course, with lower elevation than where I live. I had originally wanted to post up the lentil sloppy joe recipe today, but we ate dinner out last night for my grandmas birthday so I didn't have time to cook also. I am definitely making them tonight though, so that will be Monday's post. Just wanted to update on my training run today, so I can post about something new Monday. Well, that's all I got. I am off to run errands and relax this evening! Happy Friday, have a great weekend!
9 miles baby!
My new fuzzy bathrobe, an early xmas gift and a cute new clip! Got 2 other new purchases, I will take pictures this weekend!

The ugly truth
Happy Thursday!
This is me looking/feeling pretty hot, about 18 percent body fat and some serious muscle. 130 lbs. Yeah, then my husband got out of the army and moved home and this happened:
180 lbs of not hotness. See the chicken thigh arms. NOT sexy and NOT newlywed status. I could make excuses and try to explain why I let it happen but it doesn't really matter. It happened. Also, I got my blood taken and the results were less than ideal. I had been reading a bunch of blogs and heard of all of these normal women running when they previously hadn't. I didn't have a gym membership yet and was finally like ok I am getting of my ass and becoming a runner. I just kind of went from being lazy to running 3 miles, when I commit to something I go all out. I signed up for a half marathon to keep myself running. I cried, sweat and bitched my way through the first 2 months of running but I just kept meeting my goals no matter how long it took- 3 miles took an hour the first time. Now, I'm down to a 9:30 for my fastest mile and on longer runs I average an 11:30. I got some good news this weekend, I am down 19 lbs which I was NOT expecting because I normally like to add in some weight training to but I needed to pass my classes so it kinda took priority and I had only been running and eating somewhat healthy/counting calories. You can check my Instagram for more current photos of me @taberturner or read a previous post. No time=no makeup or clothes that aren't yoga pants so I'l take a good one tomorrow and show. When I lost weight to get where I was in the first photo, I worked hard but I wasn't finding a lifestyle or an activity I enjoy. I can't say that I enjoy running every day but I can say that it has made me a better person physically, mentally and emotionally. If I can enjoy running, YOU can too! I'm just a normal girl with stress and a very busy life like everyone else.
So there's my mortifying truth, but it won't be the truth here soon. Tomorrow is a post on a new recipe courtesy of my sister-in-law lentil sloppy joes. They are yummy! She is vegan so most of her recipes are super clean and healthy, I love going over to her house for dinner.
That's all I got. Have a great Thursday!!
Yesterday was my last day as an undergraduate student. Finally. Yay! I now have a bachelors in creative writing with a minor in history, health education, and journalism. Now for the hard part- finding a job. It feels pretty crazy to say I don't have homework anymore. What am I going to do with all this time?! Given the intense studying I have been enjoying, I haven't thought up a great post so I decided I will show you all the biggest reason I started running. My weight. As embarrassing as it might be to admit.
This is me July 2011

7 mile training run
Hey everyone!
So this weekend was my 7 mile training run in preparation for my half next month. I had been kind of excited about it because it would be the farthest I had ran since my last half in November. I've improved so much since then, and I love feeling that happen. I am not a big morning eater, so I forced down some whole wheat toast and water and then headed out. Mile 1-2 were alright, warming up getting the feel of things and I ran a 10 minute mile for both of those but then I started to feel weak. Luckily, I was wearing my new running belt and had my running fuel with me. I bought a few different kinds so I can choose one I like to use for races. I tried the powerbar today and it was pretty good, quick and filling. I drank all my water and then was able to finish my run pretty good I didn't get tired or too grumpy.
The rest of the day was super packed and I am so glad I got my run in early this weekend. We went shopping for Christmas, then got some food and watched a movie at the husbands parents house. After that we went out for drinks with my brother and sister in law, some of our best friends. It was their 5 year anniversary. I love them and their little family so much we are so lucky to have them in our life! Needless to say I slept in until 11 am Sunday morning and had a lazy day. Studied a bit and caught up on tv. I live for the weekends!
Happy Monday!

This & That Linkup
Happy Thursday! Today I am going to do my first linkup, mainly because I have been swamped this week and don't have time to do an original post. I found the linkup through Recently Roached & Katie. If you want to join the linkup click on their links and grab the button to share some this & that from your week!
This: Sons of Anarchy. Am I the only one out here watching Sons of Anarchy?! How insane was the finale this week?! I totally almost cried and am now depressed that I can't see a new season for like an entire year. That show is so insane, I love me some TV drama. The husband and I started watching it this summer and blew through 4 seasons just in time for the 5th to start this fall. We are obsessed. For reals, this was totally the highlight of the week so far (thank you last week of undergrad homework shit).
That: Studying, endlessly. I have had like no free time at all this week unless you count after 11 pm watching an hour of tv before going to bed. I am trying not to get too excited that I am basically done with my bachelors degree until after I kick my 2 tests in the ass next week. But I am super stoked and I cannot wait to be able to have a full time job. Finally. Maybe I will feel more proud/accomplished once I actually get my diploma in the mail but for now I am stressing about my grades to the point of severe anxiety. Looking forward to major champagne this weekend, holla!
That's all I got in my world this week. Dying for Monday so I can get this over with! I'm off to gonap run and make another study guide before work.

Vacation
Hey everyone!
I am SO excited right now, because last night we officially bought our flight to L.A. for January 10th. We are planning to go to seaworld, disneyland, and a few other super fun things with some of our closest friends. I can't wait. I will get to celebrate for finishing school finally. Luckily it is still a month away which gives me lots of time to keep working out. I ran 4 miles yesterday, and I had fully intended on running 4 more today but my arches are KILLING me. Like I can't even walk normal. Damn flat feet. How can my arches hurt when I don't even have any?? Since I didn't run today I did an hour of stretching and then broke out my ballet shoes to keep warming up and strengthening my feet. When I lose more weight I really want to get back into ballet. I use a New York City Ballet workout/stretching DVD when I want something more relaxing. I'm giving my feet another day to rest but then I am kicking up the training this week, I will do a 4 mile and 3 mile run Thursday and Friday and then finish the week with 7 miles on Sunday. I am hoping to fit in some strength training one day too. I can't wait to kick up the workouts next week since I no longer have school or homework! I have another motivating race to keep me on track! I registered for the 13.1 series half marathon in L.A. for January 13th. It starts at 7 am which means I will need to leave by 6 am. Oh well, I think I can sacrifice one early morning to run through Venice Beach. I am super excited but really nervous because there is no limit so 50,000 people could show up and there is a time limit by which you need to finish in. My goal is to finish in 2 hours 30 min. If it's crowded though that might not happen. I live in a pretty small place, so even the really busy races the crowds thin out pretty quick. I am off to go finish my last bits of homework. Happy Tuesday!
Anyone run some busy races and have advice? How do you handle foot pain? How is your Tuesday?

Blog facelift & other news
Hey all,
Some exiting news for the blog- I am getting a "blog facelift" by Hubby Jack blog designs! I am super stoked, he sent me the new headers this evening and they are all awesome! I could hardly choose so I had my instagram followers help me decide. My Facebook and instagram will be linked to here once I get his update. I am a computer idiot so I was relieved when I found someone I could hire to do it, plus his designs are amazing.
I also signed up for an ornament swap with Simple little joys & Life of Meg I love both of their blogs and am looking forward to another opportunity to meet some more people in the blogging community.
Running update:
So this week I had a TON of homework, like a ridiculous amount. I still have way more than I have time for but it is my last week of college unless I want another degree someday. YAY! Bad news, that meant I slacked a little in my workouts this week. It was a bummer, I only ran 3 times instead of my training program which is 4 and I didnt lift at all. I figured that turning in these assignments is more important so it had to happen. I am also planning on going back to 2 hours a day working out next week when I don't have class. That being said, my 3 runs did go well. The first 2 were just 3 miles and the final one was 5 miles. In 2 weeks I went from running 4 miles in an hour to 5 miles in an hour. I love the gratification running gives, there is no way you cant improve. Today my arch was killing me and my shin splints are lingering a little but much better than they have been, and technically it was closer to 6 miles but I had to walk the last mile back to my house since my foot was dying and I had hit my goal. This week on my running schedule I plan to do a 3 miler tomorrow, 4 miles Tuesday, and 3 on Thursday followed my 7 on Saturday. I am stepping up in the training because there is a chance I may do another half in January.
We got some other good news this week that we should be able to go visit our good friends Chris and Rachel in L.A. early January. My dad is helping us out with flying miles and getting our plane tickets. If we do end up going, I plan to do a half marathon in Venice Beach while we are there.

Christmas swag swap
Happy Wednesday people!
It's super crazy over here, I've got a week left of classes and about 10 big assignments due within that time so I'm tired and feeling stretched for time. I am super excited today though because I am participating in the December swag swap hosted by Keyona at skinny and delicious! (Hoping to link this later) the theme is Christmas and you get to fill a box for a fellow blogger assigned to you and do a secret Santa swap! I LOVE finding new bloggers and can't wait to get to know some of them from this awesome exchange! If your new to the blogging world like me this is a great way to branch out! Along with this Christmas theme, my boring/ simple decorations are up! I posted a picture of my tree but don't have much more besides that. We live in a small apartment but the location is worth the lack of space plus we don't want to commit to a house. I love my simple tree it makes the place homey!
The awesome top I ordered from shop Kiki la'rue came in this weekend! It is so comfy! It's called the mama Laughlin top and it has a super cute cutout in the back. I love tops that have fun backs on them. Pictures below!
In other news, I went shopping yesterday before work and got an amazing owl sweater! I am OBSESSED with cute owl stuff! Pictures coming soon! I apologize for the lack of photos but I will get on it soon along with hopefully a new layout. Yay!
How is your week going? What are you looking forward to?

Why I run
Hey all,
So I started thinking about this blog and realized that at the point I started writing this I was already starting to enjoy running. I didn't tell you about why I started or how crappy it was for a long time. I started running because I saw all of these women whose blogs I read going from couch to half marathons. Regular people. I have about 30 lbs to lose, nothing compared to what some of these gals have done- but I'm not in shape or healthy. I got a blood test taken and the results scared me. I decided I could be a runner to. I needed to save my heart. My husband and I signed up for a half marathon to motivate me and he was able to not train at all coming from his army background. I worked my ass off. I will always remember my first run, I wanted to do 4 miles. I know kind of a big goal for the first time. I couldn't get there, I ran 3 miles in 1 hour! I knew I had my work cut out so I started running, 3-6 miles 4 days a week no matter how slow. I pushed through the slowness and the pain and pictured my goals. I wanted to love running so I can be the 70 year old kicking ass at half marathons. I've been running about 3 months now. I'm up to a 11 min mile average on longer runs and am enjoying running. I'm getting healthy and while I REALLY want to lose weight, I want to be healthy and strong first. I graduate college in 2 weeks and I'm going to kick it up in the working out schedule. For anyone considering running and doubting yourself- you can do it. I completed a half marathon after running 6 weeks. I'm a normal, semi unhealthy girl who wants a fitness lifestyle. I run because I want to inspire. I want to be a role model to my future kids and I want to be running when I'm old but have a healthy body. I am a runner.
What motivates you to run? What made you start?

Turkey day run and Black Friday
Hey all,
This week was SO busy! Wednesday I had to hit express for their 50% off sale to get an interview outfit for my job search. I also got the new iPhone because the button on my old one died. I got to hit the gym for an arms and abs workout but didn't run on Wednesday because I had the turkey day 5k the next day and really wanted to PR. Thursday morning the alarm went off at 630 am for the turkey day run. There was so many people there! Wow. It was tough to pass people to keep at a running pace. This was my best run EVER! I tried not to look at my pace on my Garmin but finally at .85 miles I looked and was running a 9:07 mile pace. My goal was a 10-12 minute mile. I was actually about to keep pace with that and fluctuated between 9:00-9:40 pace the entire time. I ended up finishing in 35 min and walked minimally. My shin splints are still rocking so it was slightly painful but I pushed through. I met my goal of finishing in under 40 minutes AND set a new pace record for myself. Yay. I can't wait to do some more races/ fun runs. The next run we are doing is a 10k mid December and I hope to PR for that as well. I also registered for my second half marathon. It isn't until June but its a big seller and the price increases after January. It's called the "see Jane run women's half marathon" and they serve champagne, chocolates and brunch after the run. I am super excited and hope I can fit in a few more halves before then.
Now onto Black Friday. On Thursday the hubs and I had 2 thanksgivings after the run- one with his family and one with mine. I don't like thanksgiving food much so lucky for me I think I lost more weight this week. We left my families thanksgiving around 1030 to try to hit target. Big mistake- the lines were so long to check out and we only had 4 items so we changed our mind and headed to the mall. My husband found some sweet deals for me for Christmas gifts, I got our parents gifts and I also am pretty much done shopping for my husband. I didn't pay full price fore anything. We also bought some DVDs and such online and are looking for a few more items on our list marked down for cyber Monday. It was exhausting and after being on my feet so much my legs and ankle are killing me. It's a bed and movies day for us. Since I got the new phone and haven't uploaded thanksgiving pictures, this post is picture free :( sorry but I will try to add some tomorrow.
How did your thanksgivings go? Did you go Black Friday shopping? Anyone else do some awesome runs?

Weekly run recap
Hi everyone!
Another Monday in the books. I had classes today and then took my niece to her gymnastics class. For dinner I had pesto whole wheat pasta it was delicious. I was able to hit my goal for miles last week, 14 total. I got in a nice 4 miler before dinner at the in-laws on Saturday. I'm planning on some weight training and running tomorrow and am really looking forward to the turkey day 5k on thanksgiving morning! I haven't weighed yet this week but I did last week at the doctor and I am down 10 lbs. I did REALLY well on my eating last week and plan to do so again this week. Working out, healthy eating and homework are my priorities this week since I don't have classes. Only 2 weeks left of the semester! Yay then I am done for good. Hmm what to do next? The Hubs and I will be heading out for a little Black Friday Christmas shopping and getting and interview outfit for me. Looking forward to some good deals since I am not near my goal weight yet.
I got an amazing new running headband from BondiBands that is so soft and comfy. Go look and find some fun new bands for yourself!
Finally, if you haven't checked out this website, go to Kiki la' rue and look at their clothing items. I got a sick top from them that I stole from my favorite blogger ever Mama Laughlin. In fact, while your at it read her blog it will make your life better.
What are your plans for thanksgiving? Any runs planned? Where are your favorite places to buy running gear online?

Weekly run re-cap
Hi everyone!
So normally I would be posting about my weekly runs on Monday's, but I didn't post yesterday because I had too much to do. Since my half marathon was last week, I had to heal up from it. I did get in 6 miles last week and am planning on 15 miles this week. I also did a super intense arm workout a few days ago and finally have a full range of motion back. I did OK on my eating this past week- not great, the Hubs and I were both run down from the half and having to go back to school all week so we ate a lot of "convenient food"like wheat noodles with pesto. I didn't gain any weight though, but I am hoping to lose more this week and next. Last night the Hubs made me a delicious dinner of grilled teriyaki chicken with brown rice. I am SO looking forward to next week with some time off from school. Yay! I could do without the holiday stress though. We are participating in a Turkey Trot run on Thanksgiving morning, and the time off will give me time to focus on my eating and running. In other news, I officially have shin splints- OUCH! I am hoping they don't last too long, and I am still pushing through them for shorter runs. Wish me luck!
Something I LOVE that other bloggers do is when the post their running playlists, because I am always in need of new workout music. So I will share with you my playlist from the half marathon.

Week recap
This week has been crazy busy! I have had work every day plus classes and assignments. On Wednesday, I wasn't going to be home until 9. My husband was texting me that he was playing video games but when I got home I saw that he had really cleaned our entire apartment and made me a bath with candles and wine. It was awesome. I love it when he cleans for me I always want to cry. He is amazing. I was able toget in some gym time though not as much as I would have liked but I have had no time this week. Also, I have had a lot of pain still healing from the half marathon. I injured my ankle a long while ago and it is acting up again after putting that length of stress on it so I haven't done a leg workout this week. I will hopefully get more workouts in tomorrow and Sunday and I will update you on my runs for this week on Monday! I am actually at work right now, so we have no big plans for the weekend other than some running and gym time for me. I cannot wait to sleep in tomorrow! I felt like I got hit by a truck when my alarm sounded this am. Boo. So sleep catch up this weekend! Happy Friday everyone!

Mindless Monday
After running the half marathon this weekend, I was NOT looking forward to my 7:30 am wake up this morning. I survived the day though, and when I got home around 5 pm today my husband was waiting with some surprises. He had gotten me a new running belt to hold water bottles and snacks, and a running magazine, plus a 13.1 sticker. I was dying around mile 8 since I thought the race provided bananas at least and it turned out they didn't, so since I am already planning my next half marathon he bought me this to prepare me. I hate living in Idaho there are no long runs until March! I am going to look into maybe traveling somewhere. I didn't run today because I am still pretty sore and don't want to prolong the pain so I have a 3 miler scheduled for tomorrow along with some weight training. I am already excited to get back to training! How was everyone's Monday?
The 13.1 Sticker! Can't wait to earn more!
My new running belt with water bottles, snacks and magazine!
